cafe kick

I’m not the greatest of football fans, but cafe kick is a great place to be when the big matches are on, particularly something like Brazil vs. Argentina - a good Latin-American match. The place erupts with passion, fuelled by Mojito’s and Spanish beer. It basically attracts a decent crowd of all sorts and this is very much how the bar operates.

I’m unsure of the best way to describe Cafe Kick, but the best bet is probably Modern European, a safe bet for many bars like this. The menu is limited, but has a good spread of regular specials, mains, salads and sandwiches. Stand out items include the New Kick platter - a mix of cala di musica (bread), montenebro (goats cheese), manchego, Serrano ham, piquillo and chillies.

The Gnocchi with cherry tomatoes, franceschiello buffalo mozzarella and sage was fresh and rich in flavour.

Finally, a regular on the specials board and well worth it is the Empadao - a Brazilian style chicken pie.

All meat is sourced from McKanna Meats in Theobald Road and is free range where possible, but the great thing about Cafe Kick is its charm. Haphazard table arrangements, picked flowers in jam jars; salsa music and very friendly staff make it a perfect lunch spot.
